CHED-Region III grants 'Certificate of Proficiency' to Journal publisher/editor

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-Region III granted a "Certificate of Proficiency" to Ramon R. Valmonte, publisher-editor of Nueva Ecija Journal, last May 19 at the commission's office in San Fernando, Pampanga.

It was the first time CHED gave such a certificate to anyone in Central Luzon.

The certificate recognizes Valmonte as a duly qualified faculty to handle on a full-time basis Mass Communication subjects in any college or university, in lieu of the masteral degree requirement prescribed in CHED Memorandum Order No. 44, series of 1997.

CHED Regional Director Imelda T. Daraug, during the simple signing and presentation ceremonies, emphasized that the positive decision on Valmonte's request to consider his extensive professional media experiece in the determination of his teaching status was taken after a personal interview and a thorough assessment of his credentials by a CHED panel.

The panel was composed of Dr. Ofelia P. Tolentino, Supervising Education Program Specialist; Erlinda J. Butt, Education Supervisor II; Lea L. Pare, Education Supervisor II; Yolanda C. Cordova, Education Supervisor II; and Dr. Daraug.

Valmonte graduated with a Communication Arts degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1971. He has been teaching Mass Communication subjects at Wesleyan University-Philippines, Cabanatuan City since the course opened in 1987. He airs news and public affairs programs on AM and FM in Cabanatuan and has been a broadcaster for 30 years. He pioneered web site construction and publishing in Nueva Ecija.

Among the credentials he presented to CHED was a hard copy of -- what else? -- Nueva Ecija Journal. ###
