LIFE OF A PETALS
(by Genoveva Circa Barcelo Regehr  11/13/2007)

My petals grow in the garden;
You won`t see me for a while;
For the autumn breeze
Send waves like wild winter winds,
Snapping and wrecking my delicate skin,
and cover their mosses and trunks;
The bark of an old oak will turn crisp, cracked
by the cruel chills.

Maple leaves will gradually become red,
The sunset will dim, its brightness will disappear.
But, soon, as the snow melts
Buds will peep from the branches
The little green leaf will peek and grow with thorns.
There I am! Beautiful flowers of another spring!
My petals! soft as a newborn baby`s skin;
Rich in colors and pure as a virgin.

As the sun sparks its light;
And dries up the moist from morning dew`
My fragrance circle up in the air.
Lovers walk by and sniff my wonderful scents
From lilacs to hyacinths, from calla lilies and orchids.

Posed like ballerinas; preparing to perform;
I, elegant before my applauding audience!
Like flowers, like skirts,
My petals swirl with grace,
But like dancers who grow tire,
After long hours of rehearsals;
My petals can also be bruised.

So gentle with me, hold me with care,
With your both hands, closer to your heart;
I will renew my strength,
Upon resting overnight;
Showers from the rain will quench my thirst.
