Artist Club Marks 42nd Founding Anniversary with a Simple Celebration
(by SM-AC News 2/22/2024)

In a humble yet heartfelt gathering, the Artist Club commemorated its 42nd founding anniversary, tracing back to its inception in 1982. Originally established as a student organization through the collaborative efforts of Arch. Rexie Fernando, Romeo Trinidad, Ted Clemente, and other founding members, including the first student founder, Elmer Dasco, the club has since blossomed into a beacon for budding artists across the nation.
The journey of the Artist Club, from a small group of passionate students to a nationally recognized body, is a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity and camaraderie. In 1992, a significant expansion occurred when Elito Circa, alongside co-founders Marilyn Meriales and Cesar Makalinao, initiated chapters across various universities, colleges, and high schools. This move not only broadened the club's reach but also solidified its presence in the academic sphere, allowing young artists from diverse backgrounds to connect, share, and grow.
Achieving another milestone in 1998, the Artist Club was officially registered as a Non-Profit National Organization with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), further establishing its credibility and influence in the art community.
The 42nd anniversary celebration was marked by simplicity, reflecting the club's humble beginnings and its focus on the essence of art and fellowship. Members from various chapters and generations came together in a modest program, sharing stories, experiences, and, most importantly, their love for art.
This anniversary not only celebrates the past achievements of the Artist Club but also looks forward to its future endeavors. It remains a platform for artists to express themselves, to learn and to inspire one another. As the Artist Club continues to evolve, it steadfastly holds onto its core values of nurturing talent and fostering a sense of community among artists.
The simple gathering for its 42nd anniversary is a reminder that in art, as in life, the most profound connections and experiences often come from the simplest of interactions. The Artist Club stands as a beacon of creativity, unity, and inspiration, continuing to shape the landscape of art in the country for years to come.
