Photoshop Tutorial: Uncoloring parts of a photograph
(by Eli-ment  4/17/2011)

This tutorial will show you how to convert a photo into a black and white with splashes of color using brush tool. This is a great technique for anyone who wants to add dynamic color effects and emphasize some part of a photograph.

I have here a photo taken from the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas 2011 and our task is to highlight the newly crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe Shamcey Supsup.

Here are the 5 easy steps:

1. Open a  photograph.

* 2010 Architecture board topnotcher and magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman Shamcey Supsup, was crownednamed the 2011 Binibining Pilipinas Universe during the pageant coronation night on Sunday, April 10 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

2. Goto Layer > Duplicate Layer. A popup will appear, name the duplicate layer “B&W”.

Click “OK”

3. Then goto Image > Adjustments > Desaturate .

The “B&W” layer should turn black and white. Look at the picture below.

4. Go to LAYER> LAYER MASK> REVEAL ALL

5.  With the “B&W” layer active, select the BRUSH TOOL.

Select an appropriate brush size. Then zoom in and begin brushing the areas of the photo where you want the color to appear.

Continue brushing on parts of the photo (use smaller brush size if necessary) until you have the final result that you are looking for.
